Laura Dimmick, PsyD







Dr. Laura Dimmick is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned her doctorate in psychology (Psy.D.) from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2012. She works with adolescents and adults of all ages on a broad range of concerns. Dr. Dimmick is a part-time associate at Dominion Behavioral Healthcare and also works as an independent contract psychologist at University of Richmond’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) center. Dr. Dimmick enjoys working with a variety of clients in both short and long-term therapy. She also performs psychological assessments for adolescents and adults.

Dr. Dimmick’s therapeutic focus and interests include treatment for:
  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • Anxiety, worry, and stress
  • Trauma (i.e. experiences following distressing or life-threatening events)
  • Grief, loss, and bereavement
  • Relationship issues
  • Eating disorders/ Eating and body image issues
  • Identity issues (i.e. gender identity and sexual orientation)
  • Women’s issues
  • Peak Performance (i.e. athletic or academic performance enhancement)
  • Adjustment issues (i.e. college students; major life transitions)

She provides individual, couples, and group therapy and approaches treatment from an integrated orientation tailored to each person’s specific interests and needs. For some clients, this may mean a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approach, which includes building skills to promote change and improve coping. For others, a psychodynamic or interpersonal approach may be most beneficial, in which problems and issues are discussed toward creating a deeper understanding of self and interactions with others. Dr. Dimmick also uses supportive, emotion-focused, and mindfulness-informed approaches, among others. When of benefit to clients, she enjoys using art and narrative work in individual and group therapy.
