Beth Heller, Ph.D.
Dr. Beth Heller, clinical and school psychologist, has over 15 years experience as a mental health provider, primarily in the Richmond metropolitan area. After receiving her undergraduate education at James Madison University, she remained at JMU to complete her school psychology training in 1988. Dr. Heller returned to graduate school after gaining many years experience as a school psychologist, and completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia in 2005. While there she earned the Richard Abidin Award for Clinical Excellence.
Dr. Heller provides psychotherapy and assessment for children, adolescents, and adults. She has extensive experience in the assessment of learning, attentional, and emotional disorders across the developmental span, particularly as they pertain to difficulties in school adjustment and success. Dr. Heller utilizes an integrationist approach to the treatment of problems in daily living, incorporating cognitive, behavioral, psychodynamic, and interpersonal orientations to best understand and meet the needs of each individual. Special areas of interest include treatment of depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and parenting and relationship issues. Dr. Heller's clinical experience includes work in community mental health and in-patient settings, as well as more traditional out-patient services. She served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Academy of School Psychologists (VASP) from 2000 to 2004 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Institute for Pastoral Care (VIPCare). She is a member of several state and national organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
