Dr. Vivian L Begali
Dr. Vivian L. Begali is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Neuropsychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist with over 25 years of experience in service to children and adults with medical, physical and emotional problems. She received her Doctor of Psychology degree (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from James Madison University and completed advanced post-doctoral fellowship training in Neuropsychology in accordance with the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) and American Psychological Association (APA) standards for practice as a neuropsychologist. Before earning her doctoral degree, she earned her Bachelor's (BS) and Master's (MEd) Degrees in Special Education at Slippery Rock University, Pennsylvania, and an Educational Specialist Degree (EdS) in School Psychology at James Madison University. She offers day and evening appointments at Dominion Behavioral Healthcare's newest location at Harbour Pointe.
Dr. Begali has specialized training and experience in medical/health psychology, neuropsychological assessment and treatment of neurological disorders, hypnotherapy, and family/couples psychotherapy. She provides treatment to individuals across the life span to include children as well as the geriatric population. She provides comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for vocational, disability, capacity/competency, and forensic purposes. When providing individual psychotherapy, she uses an integrated approach which draws from a combination of cognitive-behavioral, patient-centered, and solution-focused frameworks in order to meet the specific needs of the individual. Dr. Begali was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since establishing residence in Virginia in 1979, she has been on staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Charlottesville Public Schools, Cumberland Hospital, and Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Hospital.
Dr. Vivian Begali has published a range of professional articles, book chapters, and authored two books on Traumatic Brain Injury (Wiley Publishing Company). She has been an invited speaker for local and national audiences. She has also supervised clinical psychology graduate students and has taught courses at the university level on psychotherapy, counseling and general psychology.
Dr. Begali has completed the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) training requirements required for advanced certification as Consultant, and uses hypnotherapy in the treatment of chronic pain conditions (e.g., fibromyalgia, spinal disorders, surgical injury), anxiety, habit control (e.g., smoking cessation, weight control), and neurological disorders. Dr. Begali is Past President of the Richmond Academy of Clinical Psychologists. She is a member of APA, INS, NAN, and VPA and serves on national, state and local psychological committees. She has recently been awarded Fellow status by the National Academy of Neuropsychology.
